We are heartbroken and angry today. A life of a child has been needlessly lost on the coast of Calais. Our politicians have the power to act with compassion and common sense and save these lives before they are put in the hands of criminal gangs #RefugeeLivesMatter
A relatively small number of desperate people are crossing the channel seeking refuge. If they make it safely and claim asylum, they will be refused the right to work here and expected to live on £36 a week. I don’t understand those whose first instinct is anger at them.
Hey @PritiPatel we think the real crisis is our lack of humanity for people fleeing war, climate change and torture. We pulled together a thread for you..
Dear @pritipatel
The displacement of people, families and children is only set to increase as the climate crisis worsens.
You have a choice - to respond with gunships or respond with humanity.
If you want to save lives, open up safe and legal channels for climate refugees.
"The Climate Change Cabinet member could work with the Department of Defense to expand humanitarian relief programs for climate refugees that will pose national and global security risks in the future."

"Aid is not a meaningful solution for those harmed by climate breakdown in the global South. This is not a matter of charity. Rich nations need to end their use of fossil fuels and provide reparations to displaced communities." https://t.co/wODIYGu80Z
We would like to register our support to the Abolish 'BAME' Campaign. As a catch all phrase, BAME is at best reductive and does not assist our understanding of issues faced by people of colour and ethnic minority communities. Let's make a change!
Climate Refugees are often forced to leave their homes because the climate crisis has made their livelihoods unviable. These are skilled people looking for asylum and the dignity of work. It makes no sense to stop them #LiftTheBan
