The first Missouri capitol was destroyed by fire in 1837. The second capitol was destroyed by fire in 1911, when lightning struck the dome. The THIRD Missouri Capitol narrowly escaped a similar fate on May 13, 2026 when a GOP Senator hit too many buttons preparing his Hot Pocket.
