The Department of Electrical Engineering at IIT Kanpur successfully hosted a three-day national workshop on Metamaterial Antennas and Applications, under the DRDO-Industry-Academia Centre of Excellence (DIA-CoE). Co-sponsored by Keysight Technologies, Agmatel, Rohde & Schwarz, Anritsu, IEEE UP Section, IEEE APS SBC, and IEEE UP Chapter, the workshop brought together experts from academia, defence, and industry. Shri L. C. Mangal, DS & DG(TM), DRDO HQ, inaugurated the event and delivered a keynote on “Multifunctional RF Devices and Systems,” highlighting their critical role in modern communication systems.
Prof. Tarun Gupta (Dean R&D, IIT Kanpur) and Prof. Yogesh Singh Chauhan (HoD, EE & IEEE UP Chair) addressed the gathering. Coordinated by Prof. Raghvendra Kumar Chaudhary and Prof. Kumar Vaibhav Srivastava, the workshop featured 13 technical sessions with talks by experts like Dr. Ashutosh Kedar (LRDE), Dr. Pramendra Kumar Verma (DEAL), and faculty from IITs Patna, Jammu, Indore, and BEL Ghaziabad. With 125+ participants from 55+ institutions including IITs, NITs, IIITs, and DRDO labs, the event enabled vibrant academic-industry exchange.
Participants also toured advanced labs at IIT Kanpur, including the Microwave, mmWave, EMI/EMC, MedTech, and Airstrip facilities. An industry exhibition displayed cutting-edge tools like VNAs and D-band setups, drawing strong interest. IEEE representatives engaged attendees, promoting ongoing initiatives and collaboration opportunities.
