20 years ago today, a group of 12 @UAlbanyDAES students intercepted the Spencer, SD F4 tornado. We traded our video of the storm to the local CBS station for their damage survey footage. Both videos are staggering reminders of the awesome beauty and terrible power of nature.

Looking for ROI in hurricane forecast improvements? “These improvements imply an annual per-hurricane cost reduction of $700,000 per county, or $5 billion per hurricane”. https://t.co/NgDab1PBgs
NOAA is reportedly on the DOGE chopping block.
The National Weather Service, which is part of NOAA, provides life saving weather forecasting in the US.
A study found that for every $1 invested in NWS, it produces $73 in value to Americans.
Again, this isn't about efficiency.
We're hiring a Visiting Asst. Professor/Postdoctoral Associate in terrestrial water systems (sfc hydrology), or snow & ice processes, who will perform research under the supervision of a @UAlbanyDAES faculty member, with the goal of developing an independent research program.
🌀Our TCBL lab🌀is admitting a M.S. (or Ph.D.) student to study boundary layer winds and tornadoes of landfalling hurricanes in Fall 2025. Students with a strong passion for hurricane science and a strong background of programming/physics are particularly encouraged to apply.
I am looking for a new graduate student to join my group in Fall 2025 to study coastal tropical convection! More information is here https://t.co/VSHduQY7VE

Hurricanes are more powerful than human technology.
“If meteorologists could stop hurricanes, we would stop hurricanes,” says @ProfCorbosiero. “If we could control the weather, we would not want the kind of death and destruction that’s happened.” https://t.co/0gyYdXU5O6

@MikeFischerWx Great advice from Brian. It's hard to say no when the manuscripts look interesting, but you can, and should, to prioritize your own work.
