The University of Chicago aesthetic -- Ye Olde Not Quite Merry England -- was specifically designed to imitate Oxbridge. It's aspirational and hollow -- and hides the fact that this is the birthplace of neoliberalism, a profoundly modern phenomenon. See: Milton Friedman.
The reality is that a 40-hour work week is a total nightmare for people with ADHD and autism. It drains you completely. It's an actual disability, but capitalism treats us like we're just making excuses or complaining because our brains aren't wired to maximize profit for someone else.
