John Toll Professor of Leadership Studies, Washington College @washcoll. New book: Questioning Leadership (Cambridge University Press, 2024). I ask questions.
@WillOremus Part of the explanation lies in the larger structure that "this not that" is part of: being-verb statements. LLMs love being-verb statements, I think because they fit well with 'predict-the-next-word.' Active verb constructions work well when you know where the sentence is going.
@JonahDispatch@baseballcrank@willcollier Wow, you transmogrified baseballcrank's partisan drivel into a thoughtful and illuminating post. Thank you! Obama is a confusing figure, centrist and ideologue at the same time -- this is helpful in figuring out how that worked.
@keysmashbandit First of all, awesome to see two version side by side.
Second, to me the Chat version is clearly better almost everywhere. Here's a list of what I think gets better:
@emollick Feel the same way about bot posts. Soul-crushing. So a thought: Human identity now has a market value. That means a solution is profitable at right price-point. Human ID verification or you can't post? Or bot filter? We can't just surrender discourse without a fight, right?
@BigJakeCLE This is fine. But you do understand, at some level, that ICE is doing what Trump wants, right? He is not the man you thought/convinced yourself you were voting for. And the moral honesty you show here -- and good for you -- is not something you will ever see from Trump.
@bill_hayton I think Clausewitz considered it. Sounds a lot like, among other parallels, Vikings, Anglo-Saxons, Normans battling it out in Britain/England in the 9th, 10th, 11th, 12th centuries... Check out "the harrying of the north"
@karpathy Good, but educators (and parents) must consider the nature of the knowledge they need to encourage and help develop: 'ground knowledge' and expertise. https://t.co/TjhpvQXtQr
If you think democracy is on the line - working in the office is not a big ask. And there are plenty of other people willing to step up. Get yourselves together people.

@sama Working with Chat, appreciate it a lot, overall. One suggestion: when in Project mode, add a bit more visual info so you know WHICH project you're in at a glance... easy to add this top left...
