@No_IanPunsLeft The lack of depth in Democratic ranks is precisely because the party is too centralized and too hostile to internal democracy. They have gone full Starmerite
Whatever you think of Graham Platner (he's a boorish oaf) this entire sordid affair is a reminder that some Democrats have nothing but disdain for their own primary voters. This is where they are the most Starmerite
One thing to consider irt the timing of the Platner stuff: under Maine law, a candidate can be replaced by the state party if they drop out at a point before mid-July after the primary, but not afterwards. For Ds trying to force him out, these dumps are the October surprise.
@No_IanPunsLeft I've become a bit anti-federalist lately so forgive me, but it is crazy that Democrats want to present a unified national slate of candidates to voters at a time when their brand had never been more toxic. Platner, El-Sayed etc are succeeding by running FROM the national party
@No_IanPunsLeft The counter to this, of course, is that voters find him so appealing precisely because he is not a cookie cutter politician whose entire pitch was focus-tested to death first. I do not think he is a particularly impressive *person* but voters like that he says heretical stuff
@No_IanPunsLeft I blame Americans' reflexive worship of the Marine Corps. If you insist that service in the military qualifies someone to serve in public office, you can't then turn around and be surprised when you get candidates like Platner. Also they hate him because he is anti-Israel
if you gave me one video game save to do over a thing I already did in my life as if I had never done it, I would choose to experience The Americans again for the first time. A simply wondrous show
I’m starting to worry that sending thousands of Scots (a nation of people who pride themselves on their ability to wind people up) to the United States (a nation of people who are so easily rattled & also have guns) may be a bad idea x

The loudest cheerleaders for the Democratic Party have been consistently opposed to voters choosing their highest profile candidates since Barack Obama had the temerity to not only run against but defeat the Anointed One in 2008
It would be a lot better for the country and for the Democratic Party if Platner were to drop out. If he doesn't want to, Party leadership should make whatever threats are necessary to convince him to make the right choice.
