@CitizenWald Jim, why are you so obsessed with this tattoo issue? Have you not paid any attention to everything else he’s said and done? Given everything else that’s going on in the country and the world, I just wonder what you are thinking here. He’s not SS. WWII was a long time ago
@CitizenWald I like the idea that part of the failure of Hampshire is that it successfully pioneered the transformation of higher education, so it became less unique over time
@daniel_dsj2110 Yeah, but we’re just adopting a longstanding European tradition, like He—-th and his Crusader tattoos. I think the difference is the lack of a strong national identity/bond apart from the religious references makes it look more extreme
@samhaselby@_CLancellotti Thanks! A useful overview of Mignolo’s life and career, especially welcome to those of use who had to read him in grad school but couldn’t figure out what to do with it
A great piece on the silliness that’s been happening at the place I’ve been teaching for the last ten years, with a great capsule history of the university as a modernizing institution fueled by new traditions
Can't recommend enough this piece from @cd_hooks on the madness at Texas A&M. I'm proud to work at a place that still publishes some truly great magazine journalism.

@daniel_dsj2110@samhaselby Converts can sometimes aspire to some of the worst anti-Catholic stereotypes. This could well have been the case with James II of England as well
@BenSManning@samhaselby@metrics52 I think it also represents the growth of nepo-academics. So many academics being children of academics, do it is, basically, the family business
