@DeepThoth I actually just listened to a podcast where the speaker suggested that we start writing stories about friendly AIs that have happy endings for that very reason.
@DeepThoth A grad school professor of mine asks a similar question...
Even the most liberal, sensitive, and thoughtful discussions of school shootings fail or refuse to ask a simple question, “What is it about school and schooling that makes them the setting for such senseless violence?”
Do you remember when you joined X? I do! #MyXAnniversary
Still not sure what I think about X these days. It used to be a fun place to hang out. Now, not so much.
@ammaar@ammaar This will be a great discussion for my community college computer ethics students in the spring. Mind if I scan and share my copy with them? (and yes, I see the irony in the question 😂)
@wlmoseley One of my favorite things here is going out to the monthly Friday night art walk and supporting local artists. I'm doing all my holiday shopping the same way. Feels good too. #shoplocal
@DeepThoth@alfiekohn was a guest speaker at #CMK22 today. Look him up. He spoke to this in context of education today. Competition, rewards, grades, and homework are killing the joy of learning. I imagine this all applies to workplace motivation and productivity as well.
In the past two weeks, I've been in Melbourne, Sydney, Los Angeles, and then drove across the country to Western Carolina. Right now, I'm at #cmk22 in #Chattanooga and there's no place I'd rather be! Thanks @garystager & @smartinez (& crew) for bringing us all together 🥰
@alfiekohn After 25 years as a college professor, I can definitely agree that curiosity is the number one predictor of success, followed by perseverance. GPA is almost irrelevant. The "smartest" students are often lazy & not used to thinking creatively. It's sad, really.
.@elonmusk wants to buy Twitter. The former CEO of Reddit has some thoughts about that. Excellent discussion about free speech, censorship, and the value of making a contribution to humanity. Long, but worth the read so follow it through to the end. #vvccis101
I've now been asked multiple times for my take on Elon's offer for Twitter.
So fine, this is what I think about that. I will assume the takeover succeeds, and he takes Twitter private. (I have little knowledge/insight into how actual takeover battles work or play out)
