"should speed limits be enforced" is interesting because i have been known to take the autist side of similar arguments but on this one i am decidedly neurotypical. when i was growing up it was widely understood among my peers that there were a few laws that nobody cared too much about breaking somewhat, eg

- everybody speeds a little, determined by the flow of traffic, if you literally drove below the speed limit all the time you'd be obstructing traffic
- everybody pirates music (pre-spotify it just used to be way more annoying to find music, spotify actually pretty much solved this problem and i haven't pirated music since spotify launched, although i still pirate books)
- everybody drinks before they're 21; i think i had a single friend in college who waited until they were 21 to drink

the current way these laws work (still on the books but rarely enforced) seems like a fine compromise to me. things would probably not be better if they were repealed (could lead to eg very reckless speeding, very reckless drinking at young ages), and the rare enforcement means you can break the law a little bit but you need to use discretion, and sometimes you get it a little wrong and that encourages you to use somewhat more discretion in the future. it would be downright unamerican to insist that these laws and/or laws in general be enforced 100% of the time they're broken if technologically possible; i know almost nothing about this but i'm pretty sure laws have never been designed with this assumption in mind!

A side effect of people overly intellectualising themselves is they get baffled when people they perceive as less intelligent as them have the same interests and opinions. So then they have to decide these people are lying rather than admit they might be a bit mainstream
