The Malaviya Mission Teacher Training Centre (MMTTC), Jamia Millia Islamia, Central University, New Delhi, successfully concluded its 38th 8-Days Online NEP-2020 Orientation and Sensitization Programme held from 22nd โ 30th September, 2025. The programme witnessed enthusiastic participation of 136 faculty members (Professors, Associate and Assistant Professor), Research Scholars from 17 states, representing central, state, deemed and private universities across 24 different disciplines.
Prof. Kulwinder Kaur, Hony. Director of MMTTC warmly welcomed all the participants. She highlighted the paradigm shift envisioned by NEP 2020, which seeks to build an education system that is holistic, skill-driven, and rooted in lifelong learning. The course was coordinated by Prof. Sarika Sharma, Faculty of Education, Jamia Millia Islamia, New Delhi.
The programme began with a lecture on โNEP 2020: Policy to Practiceโ by Prof. Mushtaq Ahmed I. Patel, of Maulana Azad National Urdu University (MANUU); and Prof. Amar P Garg, Former Vice Chancellor, JNU Jaipur, who underlined the need to move from rote learning towards fostering critical thinking, creativity and multidisciplinary education. Prof. Sujit Kumar of Guru Ghasidas Central University, Chhattisgarh, emphasized on the role of Indian Knowledge Systems in shaping holistic education.
The programme further featured sessions on skill development, innovation and research in higher education by Prof. Pawan Kumar Tyagi of Delhi Technological University and Prof. Rihan Khan Suri of JMI, who stressed the importance of entrepreneurship, startup support and industry-academia collaboration.
In the subsequent session, Prof. (Dr.) Sunita Tanwar of Central University of Haryana and Dr. Asheesh Srivastava of Banaras Hindu University spoke on academic leadership and governance, highlighting ethical leadership and cultural competence while addressing the underrepresentation of women in senior academic positions.
Discussions on higher education and society were led by Prof. Manoj Kumar of the University of Allahabad and Prof. Vijay Jaiswal of CCS University, Meerut, while Prof. Gaurav Singh of NCERT and Dr. Ihtiram Raza Khan of Jamia Hamdard engaged participants on digital pedagogy, AI, EdTech and MOOCs with practical insights into the NPTEL ecosystem.
Prof. Amit Gautam, Director, MMTTC at NIEPA, along with Prof. Jasim Ahmad of JMI, elaborated on flexible academic pathways through the Academic Bank of Credits, multidisciplinary learning and the importance of building a robust research ecosystem in Indian universities. The significance of student diversity and inclusive education was discussed by Prof. Lalta Prasad of Banaras Hindu University and Prof. Rakesh Kumar Sharma of CCS University, Meerut.
The programme concluded on a note of optimism and shared commitment, with participants expressing deep appreciation for the enriching sessions and initiatives to take forward the vision of NEP 2020.
Congratulations to the newly elected MANUUTA body, as they mobilised 92.43% of voters, and thanks to our team for the free and fair conduct of elections. Happy Independence Day to all at MANUU.
