In June, I'm co-presenting a free workshop on targeted survey design. It's in London, in person. Spread the word. And register now: https://t.co/gHVQL6fvvG

"Surveys are really critical for the fabric of society." Sarah Henry of @ONS speaking to early career researchers at our @SurveyFutures conference at @iseressex today.
Just attended a WISM seminar in which Melike Sarac and Brady West reported on this research on showcards: https://t.co/w3IVc6tl6M. This nicely highlighted the wealth of data available from the @ESS_Survey for methodological research.
For the past year, I've been part of a steering committee producing the "United Nations Handbook of Surveys on Individuals and Households: Foundations and Emerging Approaches." We now have a draft: https://t.co/ifQTirKVU6. We'd love your feedback: https://t.co/g5ls248K4U.
@pathwithanr @RyanSwift93 Also, I understand you are comparing BES self-reports. Good data, but self-reported turnout is susceptible to social desirability bias and the nature of social desirability (and hence measurement bias) may have shifted substantially over time. (2/2)
@pathwithanr @RyanSwift93 Some great recommendations here! However, be careful with the evidence. Both housing tenure and education level, for example, have changed greatly in meaning since 60s. So it may just be that the groups compared (renters, less educated) are more extreme than before. (1/2)
@SurveyPractice@ESS_Survey Great interview: so much to celebrate! 20 years is rather an understatement, though! I attended my first meeting of the blueprint committee in 1995; ESS was formally established in 2001 and the first meeting of the ESS Sampling Expert Panel was 17 December 2001!
@MelSimmonsFCDO And not just the language. I was amazed yesterday to see 3 whole shelves of books on Ukraine in @Waterstones_Edi. History, traditions, art, testimony, .... all being preserved thanks to Russia provoking the world's interest.
I don't usually even open these irritating emails, but it's actually quite reassuring (if true) to think that research we produce doesn't just disappear into a void.
@createstreets Not only ugly but also scary and unsafe-looking. Imagine entering that narrow enclosed stairway from where no-one can see you (and that includes a 90-degree bend, so you cannot see who is round the corner). Is that supposed to encourage people to use public transport?
On 6 December, in Edinburgh, we will be holding our next Survey Practice Forum to focus on 'Challenges and Opportunities for Social Survey Data Collection in Scotland'. Join us in-person for this free event https://t.co/BdPqLaoCmv
