I think he believes, rightly or wrongly, that his choice set has been reduced to several undesirable options and is attempting to navigate with some semblance of authority given his perceived limits on the use of executive power. What would be best, I think, is for him to take more radical disposition and pursue options that would typically seem unfeasible. ie cut all aid to Israel, come to terms with Iran quickly and so on.

It truly is a difficult time to teach with regard to students desire and ability to use AI. I've leaned towards having them be in conversation with AI and attempt to see what it's leaving out or unable to do. I do largely teach political theory and philosophy though, so that shapes my interactions with the students

I've never taken myself to be much of a partisan actor but to the degree that I participate in real politics, perhaps I should do so as a Libertarian.

@Acyn There used to be a debate regarding whether socialism was a species of communism or whether communism is a species of socialism. No matter where one falls on that debate, it is patently true that in American politics communist is all too often used as a political slur.

@LarryOConnor I think we tend to do ourselves a disservice when we anachronistically try to sort past behaviors into our contemporary political nomenclature and landscape

@BenjaminPDixon I mean doesn't this feel like a rather empirical observation. The Black community, as a whole, tends to hold more conservative views on social issues. Is Abbott not allowed to express his thoughts on that?

Well I mean political parties don't exist for voters they exist for politicians and politicians seek power and influence. Either way these processes are corrupt and its the responsibility of the voters to put a check on the parties. Hopefully voters that support the party tighten up

@MichaelRapaport Well we might make a distinction between the importance of the ICC as legal mechanism and as a means of reiterating the widespread consensus that the Israeli government is committing atrocities at a scale that create consensus that the behavior is criminal

@sowelleconomics I think this is correct but a more sympathetic position might include the general societal shift away from civil society and charitable organizations. Perhaps re-valorizing those institutions would help people direct their impulse to be compassionate in a more sensible direction

@jbutler718 It's a beautiful thing to see! I think the revolution must begin with those in the position of peak power and at this point that would be Gen Xers and elder millennials. The youth will follow if they lead.
