They connect a fence to each point, then if you duplicate it again it continues the chain using the last ball + new duplicate.

The ground would need to be dug out like crazy
The slope might differ and the elevation of the road can be very unstable on high places such as mountains.

And also, some may have more fun driving on the road that way.
