Replaced all my CI with a 128 core ampere Altra and it’s literally idling most of the time.
If you’re a friend and you are strapped for compute DM me and you’ll get access for €10 per month to help cover internet, electricity and depreciation

I moved my some GitHub action runners to a new M5 Ultra Mac Studio and off of @useblacksmith. The price of compute for Blacksmith was $400+/month. You can lease a M5 Ultra 96GB for ~$110/month and have compute to spare.
@amaanq01@0xnfrith Yep. Set up @bot to monitor for good deals. With a bit of waiting I think you can snag them. A lot of automotive industry is dumping a lot of ampere old stock as they’re switching to AmpereOne or NVIDIA
@0xnfrith It’s gonna get worse before it gets better I’m afraid. But this is not investment advice :) talk to your advisor and your wife before selling your house for some compute credits
Bazel isn’t glamorous. You’d have to hold a gun to my head to make me use it pre AI.
But my god, when the entirety of my interaction with setting it up was “use Bazel” and a week later “add remote workers for distributed compile”
It’s phenomenal.
@VantagePointijk Gotta call out the idiots for being idiots to outsurf them though. So take my opinion to heart. Or not. I’m gonna keep complaining about assholes
Developers will be like, "I don't like paying $1 per build, I'll just buy this $15,000 mac studio so all my builds are free"
not an accounting class in sight
@alittletyper@mercury But philosophy is that anything that needs a turnaround of days or hours instead of weeks is buck2 and the rest is nixpkgs at the moment. Mostly so we can piggyback on all the packaging already done
