To satisfy a little more of that intellectual curiosity, 3 books explain what happened, and what is happening:
1. Mancur Olson — The Logic of Collective Action (1965)
This is the book that explains why Albany can't act. Olson's central thesis is that small, well-organized groups with concentrated interests (trial lawyers, building trades unions) will consistently defeat large, diffuse groups (contractors, taxpayers, workers, the public) in the political process — even when the diffuse group's aggregate interests are far larger. The Scaffold Law reform story is almost a textbook Olson problem: a few hundred plaintiff firms and union locals extracting billions from an industry and a defense that can't coordinate a political response. Every failed reform bill that dies in the Judiciary Committee is Olson's theory in action.
2. Hernando de Soto — The Other Path (1989)
This is the book that explains the shadow economy findings — arguably the most devastating section of the research. De Soto studied how excessive regulatory costs in Peru pushed entrepreneurs into an underground economy where the most vulnerable were exploited. Replace "Lima" with "New York City" and "business licensing" with "8-12% GL insurance loads," and you get the exact same dynamic: when compliance becomes economically irrational, contractors go underground, workers get paid cash with no protections, and the formal system designed to protect them becomes the engine of their exploitation — de Soto mapped this mechanism decades ago in a different country.
3. Thomas Sowell — The Vision of the Anointed (1995)
This is the book that explains why the data doesn't matter. Sowell's argument is that certain policies become immune to empirical refutation because they are defended not on outcomes but on intentions. The Scaffold Law "protects workers" — that's the vision. The fact that it demonstrably harms workers (higher fatality rates than Illinois, shadow economy exploitation, MWBE exclusion, demographic trap) is irrelevant to the anointed vision. Sowell describes a four-stage pattern: the crisis, the solution, the results (which contradict the solution), and the response (dismissal of the results). The 240 Project documents all four stages with 16 years of data. Illinois provides the 30-year control group. And the response from the opposition is exactly what Sowell predicts — reframing any reform as "blaming the victim."

If you add “?v” after .org, the thumbnail populates properly. I can’t get the old X cache to update I’ve tried 15 times. I’ve resorted to adding “?v” after .org and that works
You don’t see it in real time. I certainly didn’t. It feels new. It feels novel.
Happens over and over.
@RayDalio is right.
I’m sure my stamp of approval moved the needle 😂
The fight can’t be solely yours.
You guys are carrying the weight, and the bill, for millions of New Yorkers. You’re taking the charge to literally save New York (I don’t think that’s dramatic).
“Save” - moreso construction. Avoid massive tax increasss and the inevitable federal bailout.
This issue does not need project240. It requires 2 pages and probably 100 words.
Sad it takes this.
But proud of the community continuing to fight. Proud of leaders and those not scared.
To the tradesman and Ionians of the world - I know you guys. I’ve been watching closely.
I have the receipts. I have the memos presented. I have the agendas.
Actually shoot I better make sure I can find them it’s been a long time, I’ll confirm
Similar to Minnesota fraud, the problems outlined here have been presented to the New York governors office. By me. Years ago, multiple times, and well before this fraud has reached critical mass. And not lobby days, oh no, in the room.
My mouth to their ears - directly.
The internet has given me so much. I have given nothing in return. This is my attempt to even the score. Love it, hate it, just do something.

@MrBeast: you want to co-produce a video about the physics behind an accident and gravity? I can’t use @elonmusk for everything, he’s busy. I truly want to know, can an accident occur without gravity? Serious physics question, the Fabric of Reality has me asking physics questions. I know nothing about physics - I am a dumb JAG.
I guess this is kind of like a whistleblower action right, do I get a piece when you change it? 30 percent of $30billion is a lot. I don’t even want it. I’ll give it Elon to spend in New York, yes he’s really scary rich but he knows what to do with money. I don’t.
Chips in the Hudson Valley?
Last tweet of the day, if my site crashes in the next few days, it will not be from the developer.
Some funny trails are showing up in my observability log that ive never seen before. Really interesting, watching closely.
@AlexHormozi So true. Just took a risk, exposing massive fraud. Once I realized it’s risky not to share, and accepted consequence for wherever it goes could I push send. Time to get serious.

You know the hardest part about this, it’s like, when I email people they usually write me right back. I work on their most important issue in that moment.
Here, there is no feedback, even negative, it’s like damn, maybe no does care.
I think by end of week we will know if people care.
Those that do, post and retweet please! You are absolved, there is one person writing this and you are reposting because you find it interesting and a topic you think should be looked at. I gave you hundreds of different angles you could agree with. Pick just one.
And freaking share, bc my god, don’t let this go unnoticed. I still have faith - sorry Dalio we got some more time. I believe - as we tip toe towards where that line is.

Tomorrow we will lay out next steps, I can think of 3 viable paths, I’d like the community to have some input. I will lay them all out, call it a pre-settlement conference. Get some cards out there.
Albany: I’ll fly down hit me up.
Absolute liability for negligence + gravity trigger = fraud.
They made me get all this data to show that, can you imagine. All that work being done for free. For the “world” (18 followers) to see.
