It is unacceptable that Baby Doe remains separated from her loved ones. We welcome the court’s decision and continue to urge officials to use their pressure to ensure a swift reunification.

This is a case that is going to get a lot of attention and raises serious questions for the U.S. military leaders who have turned a blind eye to this case. A US Marine JAG officer now found by a 3 Judge Appeals Court in Virginia that he and his wife defrauded the court by lying to a Virginia court about an Afghan child who they lured with her family guardians to the U.S. during the chaotic withdrawal and then took the child from them when they arrived at Ft Pickett using the courts to falsify an adoption and custody, leaving the Afghan couple shocked. They sued and just won their case but the child remains with the Masts at Camp Lejeune NC.
Update on this case: Today, the Circuit Court in Virginia ruled that the Masts' adoption and custody order are void.
A reminder that the US Marine Mast wrongfully adopted and took an Afghan child from her family; she has been in his custody since Sept 2021
Our lawsuit seeks federal government records about the national origin and the prosecution and sentencing outcomes of individuals facing given immigration prosecutions in West Texas. https://t.co/Vjg73Unq05
The reporting of @Haleaziz revealed that, for an 18-month period, of the more than 200 migrants prosecuted on charges related to border crossing, more than 60% were from Muslim-majority countries, including Afghanistan, Syria, Iran, and Mali. https://t.co/YtzwxRJa8K
In March, @NIPNLG and @MuslimAdvocates filed a transparency lawsuit about this issue, prompted by reporting last year by @Haleaziz.

Last week, @SenatorDurbin asked @TheJusticeDept to investigate whether it has been discriminatorily targeting migrants from Muslim-majority countries for immigration prosecutions in West Texas.

“We must continue to work toward ending the systems that displace our communities — and also the ones that exclude them, force them through insurmountable barriers, and then criminalize them for who they are…” said Laila Ayub, Project ANAR co-founder and director.
Afghans fleeing the wreckage of decades-long war are forced to make an 11-country journey to claim asylum in the U.S. only to be targeted for detention and face systemic barriers to practicing their faith while detained due to anti-Muslim racism and structural Islamophobia.
.@project_anar’s oped in @truthout is a heart wrenching portrayal of the unique struggles of Afghans seeking refuge. Not only are Afghans displaced as a direct result of our gov’t’s $8 trillion “War on Terror” but the US offers virtually no accessible pathways for refugee status.
NEW: Our op ed today in @truthout, highlighting the experiences of our detained asylum-seeking Afghan community members. Afghans seeking refuge face insurmountable barriers, and when they seek asylum face detention and the inherent abuse of ICE prisons. https://t.co/PFtxzpyQp2
