NERC funded project entitled 'Can we detect changes in Arctic Ecosystems?' Using stable isotopes, telemetry, ecology and models to detect change in the Arctic.
NEW paper led by @CamilleDLVega in @aslo_org L&O Letters. Using d15N in amino acids analysed at @LivUni @Env_Sci, we found that d15N-AA in Harp and Ringed seals across the Arctic Ocean reflected the d15N-nitrate in water masses they forage in. So what? https://t.co/NlK6P1I26a
Paper lead by @CamilleDLVega and myself used seal teeth, isotopes, models, and telemetry to understand the drivers of long-term changes in the Barents Sea.
We see anthropogenic signals in seawater properties since at least the 1950s!

Yesterday marked the official end of @project_ARISE@NERC_CAO@livunioceansci. Thank you ARISE team for your dedication at sea, in labs and on computers. Together, we have produced some worthy new insights into how climate change is altering Arctic marine ecosystems

Not correcting for spatial trends in the baseline would have led to incorrect conclusion on the trophic position of Harp and Ringed seals across the Arctic and between species, with implications for the study of past and future changes in Arctic ecosystems.
Great tutorial by @Zooped_up on use of pCCA to disentangle plankton diversity in the. Barents Sea. Thanks to lab lead @rachelmjeffreys for organising and @EA_Doherty @louiza_norman and Alice for great discussion too. #arcticscience
Great tutorial by @CamilleDLVega on application of nitrogen isotopes of amino acids to estimate trophic position in marine mammals. #isotopes#arctic#ecology Organised by group lead @rachelmjeffreys lots of great discussion @Zooped_up @EA_Doherty Alice Lowry @louiza_norman
Productive trip to Tromso. Thank you @UiTromso and NPI for hosting us. Lots of great isotope discussions and new collaborations @CamilleDLVega @MahaffeyLab @NERC_CAO
Camille and Claire are in Tromso this week visiting collaborators on @project_ARISE and other Arctic projects. Quick stop at the Polar Museet before the meetings begin. @NERC_CAO
New ARISE paper in Global Change Biology on trends in carbon isotopes in seawater, particles and higher trophic levels in the Arctic Ocean @NERC_CAO. Congrats to Camille de la Vega coauthored by @RTuerena @rachelmjeffreys @MahaffeyLab and Raja Ganeshram

Also a #IceWorlds today I met an inflatable #BoatyMcBoatface & a scale model. Would love to have met actual Boaty & hear about all the cool science he's been doing, but he was on #RRSSirDavidAttenborough having a rest today.
Changing Arctic Ocean colleagues @MahaffeyLab and Jo Hopkins (of @CAO_PEANUTS and @project_ARISE) wowing the crowds in Birkenhead. My kids were convinced!
@louiza_norman@jawshopkins @Zooped_up excellent busy day talking to school kids as they made amazing Arctic creatures! Thank you Merseyside schools for the opportunity to engage with so many great kids @NERC_CAO@livunioceansci thanks to amazing team ARISE @louiza_norman@jawshopkins @Zooped_up @rachelmjeffreys
