A great thread - the VC that never was, and should have been. These stories are what our rebuild is all about, preserving them and ensuring they are told. All that’s stopping RB396 taking flight is funding. @LordAshcroft@TyphoonDisplay@pilot396@James1940@almurray
#OnThisDay 1944 @RCAF_ARC F/O Hal Freeman (198 Sqn RAF) was killed in an attack on a German radar station near Jobourg, south of the northwest tip of the Cotentin peninsula.
This fatal mission in advance of #DDay almost led to a Victoria Cross for Hal, but it wasn’t to be.

@AlexFitzBlack Great thread. His Group Captain, Desmond Scott, backed the VC, and has a section about it in his book. He was most disappointed it did not get awarded and says he always regarded Freeman as a VC from then on. @LordAshcroft you might find this story of interest.
We are also pleased to be able to support some members of the RAF’s Typhoon Display Team.

Good to see a Typhoon in the jig and not a Spit for a change! Something like this is needed on the UK airshow circuit as a real memorial to the brave @project_typhoon
@clark_aviation At the outset, when the project first got going in 2014/5, ten years or so was seen as a sensible target. Unfortunately, support hasn’t been as forthcoming as required, not to mention the last three years of global events making things even more difficult. It’s not easy!
In case you missed it - rebuild work on the rear fuselage of Hawker Typhoon RB396 has recommenced.
Tentative target for completion of D-Day 80 this year….
@clark_aviation Not sure it’d be possible to rebuild the entire aircraft in six months, when the rear fuselage has only just recommenced. Despite best efforts of the team, enough support to surge ahead has just not been forthcoming the last few years. Lots going on in the world…
On the hunt for auction lots for our Black Tie gala later in the year - can you help? Small or large, anything welcome, especially “non-aviation” related. Get a discount on tickets by providing a lot, too. Can you help? Get in touch if so!
Recently we turned 7. This video has been produced to demonstrate just what we’re trying to do, and how we need your support to make it happen:

What could be a better way to celebrate 600 flipping episodes of the @WeHaveWaysPod than a discussion on that beautiful beast, the Hawker Typhoon?? Love this aircraft & praying Sam Worthington-Lees and the gang at @project_typhoon get theirs back into the sky! @almurray
How a personal connection with his grandfather's wartime RAF service is motivating warbird pilot and instructor Sam Worthington-Lees to bring the legendary Hawker Typhoon back to the skies #avgeek@project_typhoon https://t.co/RAuzxY14Du
