🚨Pep Guardiola on Brazil’s defeat to Norway:
🎙️ Reporter: “Looking back now, do you think there were key decisions that changed the outcome of the match?”
🗣️ Pep Guardiola:
“I think there were a few moments that changed the direction of the game.
The first was the penalty situation. Personally, I always like the player who wins the penalty to take it if he’s confident enough, because he’s already in the rhythm of the game. If not, then I would have given it to Vinícius. These are the moments where your biggest attacking players have to take responsibility.
The second decision was taking Matheus Cunha off.
People only look at goals and assists, but football is much more complicated than that. Cunha was constantly stretching Norway’s back line. He was forcing defenders to make decisions they didn’t want to make. Sometimes a striker changes the game simply because of his movement and his presence.
When he left the pitch, I thought Norway became much more comfortable. They could defend higher, they could step into midfield, and Brazil lost that constant threat behind the defence.
Football is about details. Small decisions become very big decisions in knockout football.
I also think Brazil became too predictable. They had talented players all over the pitch, but talent alone doesn’t win World Cup matches. You need the right decisions at the right moments.
Norway deserved enormous credit because they punished those moments. They defended with intelligence, they attacked with courage, and they never stopped believing.
When you lose a World Cup knockout game, everyone talks about the result. Coaches look at the decisions. Tonight, I think a few decisions changed everything.
