The great scholar al Shanqiti said:

“Sending blessings upon the Prophet ﷺ is one of the ways a person can honour his own father.”

This is because the angel who conveys people’s blessings to the Prophet ﷺ says:

“Muhammad, so and so, son of so and so, has sent blessings upon you.”

So when you send blessings upon the Prophet ﷺ, you become the reason your father’s name is mentioned in the presence of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ.

And that is a beautiful form of honouring your father.
