While Elon and Trump refuse to admit which of them ordered the throttling of Starshield/Starlink for Ukraine, I can only thank the reporters who keep asking questions and won't let the topic die down.
Ukraine uses Starlink to intercept Russian jet-powered drones, and saving civilian lives depends on it.
This is not how American democracy should function. It’s getting worse every election, not better. I know constitutional amendments are difficult, but it seems like there should be a bipartisan supermajority of citizens who say enough with this stuff.
NEW: A new poll shows 56% of voters believe Trump is pushing to influence state election rules because he wants to "ensure Republicans win elections" at all costs.
And despite attempts to peddle baseless claims about elections, most voters don't believe his lies. https://t.co/LQcdHr6PMH
The Russians tortured 500 people in Bucha.
The Russians tortured children in Bucha.
The Russians tortured dogs in Bucha.
The Russians killed animals in Bucha.
In Bucha, the Russians used military vehicles to hunt people—turning it into a game.
People ran, the Russians fired, they hunted them down, playing games.
And this didn’t just happen in Bucha.
Trump and his mafia gang call this "humanitarian."
What do you call it?
OMFG!
Trump called his Venezuela agreement the “BIGGEST OIL DEAL IN WORLD HISTORY.”
Now ProPublica has obtained the previously secret 18-page agreement, and some of its provisions raise serious questions about what Americans were told.
The Pentagon is set to acquire 35% of a private Venezuelan oil venture through warrants exercisable for ONE PENNY per share.
The man running it, Alejandro Betancourt, has faced money-laundering investigations in THREE countries. Reuters reports that U.S. prosecutors were discouraged from investigating him further. Senior Trump administration officials also reportedly intervened with foreign governments on his behalf.
It gets stranger.
The company’s parent is registered in Barbados, where its other investors can remain hidden from public view.
The contract protects Betancourt’s position as CEO, requiring FIVE of seven board votes to remove him. People familiar with the negotiations say the structure was designed to prevent future administrations from undoing the deal.
And remember Trump’s promises?
He touted a century of American energy dominance. The actual U.S. oil purchasing rights expire after 50 years.
The White House promoted $200 BILLION in payments to Venezuela. The agreement doesn’t explicitly guarantee those payments.
And the company’s current production of 200,000 barrels per day? That’s equivalent to approximately FOURTEEN MINUTES of America’s petroleum consumption.
Who are the other shareholders? Why was this particular businessman chosen? And why did the administration keep the agreement’s terms from the American public?
Those are questions Congress should be demanding answers to.
Ronan Farrow reported in 2023 that the Pentagon signed a SpaceX contract to keep Musk from being able to cut off Ukraine’s battlefield connectivity at will. Colin Kahl described it as a way to lock in service so Musk couldn’t just flip the switch.
WSJ now reports U.S. officials say Musk ordered the Oct. 14 Starshield slowdown anyway, after speaking with Trump.
If that reporting holds, the guardrail didn’t hold.
Putin's diesel arrives in New York Nov 7 aboard the Agioi Fanendes: 40,000 tons, the first Russian fuel cargo since 2022. It's coming in on a Treasury license that sidesteps federal law. New York should refuse to be the loading dock for Putin's war chest. 🧵 1/5
Allowing one unelected man to have control over crucial aspects of the US military, allied militaries, the US space program, and so many other aspects of human life is absolutely insane. We were stupid to allow this to happen and it must be fixed ASAP.
People feel helpless to do anything about the degradation of our politics. But they are not, in fact, helpless: they can reward decency and penalize indecency. From me, a brief article on the Ramaswamy horror in Ohio. https://t.co/Ga82nAtqEO
