I’m sorry, the DWP announcing “don’t worry, the benefits u-turn means only 150,000 people will be pushed into poverty now!” is just insane. Cruel, incompetent ghouls who shouldn’t be allowed to run a bath let alone a system sick people rely on to live.
🗣️"These cuts won't save any money. The costs don't go if you cut benefits they get pushed around the system."
Our campaigner Mikey on @BBCPoliticsLDN making clear that the cuts will achieve nothing but pain for Disabled people.
MPs must vote against them tomorrow.

In case you missed, my interview with The Dream Podcast. A fantastic show that really delves into important stuff. Thanks so much to Dann and the team for having me on to talk about #poverty and #inequality and how #austerity makes both worse. https://t.co/edQfrME3zQ
Vicky Foxcroft MP: 'I don’t want to speak out like this but the govt needs to listen so I will use my voice to amplify voices that are being ignored.'
Just a snippet of her first interview since resigning over the disability benefit cuts. Full story tomorrow.
#WelfareNotWarfare
That cabinet minister Pat McFadden has done the morning broadcast rounds claiming huge numbers are “signing on” to PIP daily demonstrates why the government has a rebellion on its hands: the cuts are not simply immoral - they are based on blatant lies few MPs wish to repeat.
The “welfare reform bill” is out and let’s be clear: this is not reform - it is devastating cuts. Disabled people will be made poorer, sicker, and more isolated as a result. That it is a Labour government causing this misery will be a mark of shame on the party for years to come.
The government has introduced legislation today to implement cuts to disability & health benefits
There have been no substantial concessions on how the proposals were originally presented in the Green Paper
Here is what we know about the impact these cuts will have... 🧵
Apart from anything else, a really disturbing aspect of the government's proposed disability cuts is the utter arrogance involved. The disability rights movement and allies have been crystal clear on the damage that will come. And STILL the government does not listen.
Today the All-Party Parliamentary Group (APPG) on Poverty and Inequality has published its report from its inquiry into the disproportionate impact of poverty and inequality on disabled people.

I was interviewed by the Ace Dann Gallucci about all things #austerity and #inequality for the amazing podcast, The Dream, this week! Very exciting. You can check it out here:

Just awful that a Labour government is doing this. Shameful and cruel. It is a political choice. It is always a choice. This government is choosing to make life much harder for disabled people. Solidarity with everyone, including many Labour MPs, who are challenging the cuts.
What lessons from child poverty strategies across the UK should inform the future development of a UK-wide cross-government child poverty strategy?
NEW: State of the Nations

The brutal five week wait - making the transition to UC so difficult. A woman I know wasn't sending her children to school for a week as she had no snacks to give them - I paid for snacks for the week - nothing but a short reprieve.
The most striking aspect of these findings, beyond the sheer hardship people are enduring, is that inadequate benefits, rather than 'incentivising' people, fundamentally constrain their ability to overcome challenges & improve their circumstances https://t.co/UyBsCdd34v
10,000 more children have fallen into poverty since Keir Starmer took office.
Ending the two-child benefit cap can lift thousands out of poverty.
Provide free school meals to all.
All easily funded by taxing the rich.
Poverty is a political choice.

*NEW*
More than 10,000 children have been pulled into poverty by the two-child limit since the election.
The government should scrap it at the Budget.
