@DrDominicNg Like many have pointed out, it's a lossy analogy for a lot of things. Closed systems with enough observability and no safety risks...correct, AI does not need a human in the loop.
@ZachWritesStuff LLMs aren’t brains, but they are functional analogues in some ways. I think your arguments boil down to narrower definitions of thinking, reasoning, etc.
Neurons aren’t always active, AI agents use feedback loops/memory. Conscious potential is the interesting debate IMHO.
@mboudry@DavidDeutschOxf Your opening here is a straw man argument (which is a real life example). “Fallacies don’t exist” would mean no distinction between valid/invalid, which would defeat any use of deduction.
But point taken, monomaniacally applying fallacies is itself bad reasoning.
@JDVance Both Jay Jones and the people in that chat should be booted from politics altogether. Easy position to take if morality isn't made of Play-Doh.
@AlexUSA1776 @JStein_WaPo @JessicaTarlov@jacobbogage The pendulum, of course. There just seems to be so little fear of it swinging back the other way in a few years, undoing all the wonderful progress. I mean unless there’s some sort of hook to keep that pendulum propped up.
@DavidSacks Trust-me-bro endorsements of fellow billionaires aren't persuasive. Platitudes like "make it great again" and "drain the swamp" don't replace vision/strategy.
It's a shit show. Even MAGA people have to grasp at straws to assemble a story of what this admin is doing and why.
@JDVance You keep pulling up short of an explicit security guarantee. That's the linchpin of the deal.
He's right to be demand hard lines. What if, say, the U.S. agrees it won't intervene if Russia attacks areas we're not mining? That's the kind of scenario your deal needs to eliminate.
@dgt10011@Noahpinion I agree morality isn’t a good centerpiece for this, it’s not immaterial though. E.g. a lack of it motivates threats.
Some key arguments are less outcome based, more risk and counterfactual based. How would we detect/respond to global threats w/o much of a global network…
