this might be an unpopular opinion but i don’t believe many people write fics because they simply want to create something or as a hobby anymore. this is supported by the fact that how many fics from popular fandoms revealed to be written by ai. it’s all about engagement now.

just because someone can write using good grammar and paragraphs and quotations doesn't mean the fic is something that has enough of an impact on the reader to the point where they remember it days later/meaningfully engages with the story and thats not talked enough about #imo

i think the entry level for fanfic (comapred to say, fanart) is much higher on average, but the bar for a really good fanfic is also much higher
