@9chabard i was born in nyc, moved to the midwest as a toddler, and then moved back to the city when i was 17. i feel uniquely qualified to identify both as a new yorker and a transplant
@gayest_tone this!!!
but im also someone that actually cared a lot about customer experience when i was working in food service. you never know when someone’s already having a bad day or if they have social anxiety or whatever and i hated the idea of making those issues worse :((
@laurenhtexas the tiktoker Talia Mayden has a whole series on finding shoes like this for each season that are actually chic! the winning shoe is usually a bit expensive, but i bought the sandals she recommended and can confirm they’re worth it
@corporatecake then again, one direction couldn’t really dance so it’s not exactly the same, but they produced the same kind of fandom and excitement as NSYNC. i feel like bts is actually a lot closer in terms of performance quality
@corporatecake for a fleeting moment in time, one direction was like the new NSYNC and harry was their justin
i can’t think of a current western equivalent, but i would argue that BTS kind of transcends those east/west boundaries and meets the criteria (and jungkook is their justin)
i don't usually avoid quote-tweeting, but i don't want to give any daylight to the poster trying to dunk on 'we real cool.' i spent entire class sessions talking about that poem with students who were totally lit up by it. gwendolyn books = entirely unfuckwithable.
I’ve never quite understood how I’ll get “left behind” if I don’t use AI. I’m perfectly capable of writing, researching, and thinking all on my own. What does it do that will leave me behind?
the porn debate happening rn is wild to me bc i read a DFW essay about the porn industry when i was 13 and was so disgusted that i genuinely can’t fathom finding it hot. like i tried watching some when i was 15 and all i felt was overwhelming sadness
@saintsoftness my dad has some published poetry in both online and printed literary publications, i’ll try to remember to ask him when i call him later tonight!!
@bigmonkeong haven’t seen the film but the case for the book is definitely the latter! but i also think there is legitimately no remotely ethical way to make a live action adaptation of it and that may be the main issue people have with the film
