Talked with "WTO/99" director Ian Bell about his staggering new documentary which reconstructs the timeline of the Battle of Seattle using thousands of hours of archival footage. Maybe the best — and most important — doc you'll see this year! https://t.co/Cc2O7svd6e @ProphetKotto

This is a truly great film. If you are at all interested in the politics of protest, this will show you a lot about how we got to the disaster of militarized federal and local policing that we all have to endure to this day. More screenings are set for Minneapolis next week.
Then I saw footage of my 24 year old self being led into the jail, where I would experience the worst of all the police violence that I have endured in my life.
I recently got to see this archival documentary (no narration, all archival footage presented chronologically). It was wild for me to watch it. I saw art that I made in the marches. I saw Senator Tom Hayden giving an interview less than an hour before I met and encountered him.
People who know me well will certainly have heard me talk about my experiences at the 1999 protests against the Word Trade Organization in Seattle. It was a formative experience in my life, one that I have had to process in waves over decades.
