Last month in our L10 meeting, someone brought up a campaign from 2022 that didn’t hit our targets.

My immediate thought? “That was a disaster. We lost credibility with that client.”

But when I actually looked at the numbers, we broke even and learned three strategies we still use today.

My memory had turned a learning experience into a failure story.

I do this with employee situations too.

There’s this one termination from two years ago that I still replay. In my head, it was this dramatic confrontation that damaged team morale.

Reality? I talked to my team lead about it last week. He barely remembered it. Said it was handled professionally and everyone moved on within days.

But I’ve been carrying around this version where I’m the villain in some workplace drama that only existed in my head.
