I am immensely pleased to share that West Bengal has achieved 100% field work completion for Census Phase 1 well within the deadline of September 14, 2026.
A proud and momentous milestone for West Bengal.
Through sheer dedication, meticulous planning and relentless effort, our administrative machinery has covered every corner of the State with remarkable speed and accuracy:

# 100% Houselisting Blocks (HLBs) Completed: All 1,73,066 HLBs across every single district, subdivision, blocks, municipal corporation and municipalities have achieved complete coverage.

# Exceptional Enumeration Reach: Over 3.68 crore census houses (3,68,30,150) have been successfully enumerated against the projected 3.69 crore; an outstanding operational benchmark of nearly 99.7% of all expected households.

This massive exercise would not have been possible without our real heroes on the ground. I extend my heartfelt gratitude and highest appreciation to:
* Our Grassroots Enumerators and Supervisors: Thousands of field workers who walked miles in every weather condition, reaching every household across hills, plains and riverine belts.
* District Administrations: District Magistrates, SDOs, BDOs, Municipal Commissioners, and In Charge Officers for their tireless round-the-clock coordination and leadership.

On behalf of the Government and the People of West Bengal, I express our sincere gratitude to Hon’ble Prime Minister Shri @narendramodi Ji, Hon’ble Union Minister Shri Nitin Gadkari Ji and the Ministry of Road Transport & Highways (MoRTH), Government of India, for according administrative approval to 6 major road infrastructure projects under the CRIF Scheme for 2026–27, amounting to ₹1,042.62 Crore.

Following our State Public Works Department's proposal, this sanction covers over 194 km of vital road networks across North Bengal, South Bengal and the Junglemahal region.

Strengthening rural and highway connectivity remains a top priority for our administration. Our State PWD will ensure timely execution and adherence to the highest quality standards for these projects, ensuring smoother journeys, improved logistics and robust economic growth for our citizens.

मैं जानता हूँ कि पेपर लीक कोई मामूली विषय नहीं है। लाखों विद्यार्थी और उनके अभिभावकों के लिए बहुत ही पीड़ादायक है। और इस���िए, पेपर लीक की घटना से अब तक पिछले ढाई महीनों में अनेक कदम उठाए गए। गुनहगारों को पकड़ा गया है, वे जेल में पड़े हैं।

सरकार ने अपनी पूरी शक्ति का उपयोग करके कम से कम समय में 22 लाख विद्यार्थियों के एग्जाम हो जाएं, इसका प्रबंध किया। और अभी पांच-छह दिन पहले 19 तारीख को रिजल्ट भी आ गया। और देश भर में उत्तीर्ण हो गए विद्यार्थियों की खुशियों की खबरें भी आ रही हैं।

लेकिन हम यहां पर संतोष मानने वाले लोगों में से नहीं हैं, और इसलिए मैंने आज फास्ट-ट्रैक कोर्ट के लिए विभागों को निर्देश दिए थे। आज विभागों ने लगातार मेहनत करके देर रात मुझे मसौदा भी दे दिया। फास्ट-ट्रैक कोर्ट और कठोर सजा के प्रावधान वाले इस मसौदे पर कल कैबिनेट में चर्चा होगी। कैबिनेट के साथियों के सुझाव के बाद उसका अंतिम रूप दिया जाएगा। और सोमवार से संसद का दूसरा सप्ताह शुरू हो रहा है, तब जल्द-से-जल्द इस बिल को सदन में पारित कराने का प्रयास किया जाएगा।

Gram Panchayat Pradhans and Municipal Chairmen/Executive Officers will transition out of their previous roles as Registrars in regards to Birth and Death Registrations in West Bengal.

Our Government is continuously working to make public administration more transparent, accountable and accessible for every citizen of West Bengal. To further improve public service delivery, we have introduced key structural reforms in the Registration of Births and Deaths across the State.

District-Level Oversight: The District Magistrate & Collector of each revenue district will now officially function as the District Registrar of Births and Deaths, bringing centralized coordination to the district level.

Strengthening Institutional Registration: Block Medical Officers of Health (BMOH), rural Hospital Superintendents and Medical College Heads will act as Registrars for all institutional Births and Deaths within their respective healthcare facilities.

Dedicated Government Officers: Government Officers will now be appointed as Registrars for every Gram Panchayat and Municipality to streamline record-keeping and administrative workflows.

These progressive measures are designed to ensure better accuracy, efficiency and seamless service for our People.

Zero Tolerance for Corruption: No One is Above the Law

The Government of West Bengal maintains an absolute "Zero Tolerance Policy" against corruption at any level of Administration, Department or Government. Extortion and Corruption will never be tolerated under any circumstances and we are firmly committed to weeding out corrupt elements to completely cleanse our Administrative system.

# Incident & Complaint Details: Goods Carrier Truck No. JH09BA3535 (Owner: Dipak Singh, Driver: Shiva Yadav), while returning to the garage after servicing, the truck was wrongfully intercepted by Officials at the Rampur Checkpost in Paschim Bardhaman. The driver was illegally harassed and pressured for bribes and upon refusal, the vehicle was seized and an unlawful demand of ₹22,000 was raised towards a tax already abolished by the State Government.

# Action Taken - Acting swiftly on complaints of extortion and abuse of power, the Transport Department has taken immediate and decisive action.
The erring Motor Vehicle Inspectors (MVIs) posted at the Rampur Checkpost - Shri Nazimul Haque and Shri Anupam Banerjee have been placed under immediate Suspension with immediate effect under Rule 7(1)(a) of the West Bengal Services (Classification, Control and Appeal) Rules, 1971.
The complaints have been formally referred to the Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) for a thorough criminal inquiry and necessary legal action.
Directives are being implemented to ensure that wrongfully detained vehicles are released and that harassment of Transporters is dealt with an iron fist.

A Stern Warning: Let this serve as a clear message to all corners of the Administration. Any Official found indulging in corruption, harassment or illegal gratification will face the strictest possible disciplinary and legal consequences. We are dedicated to ensuring a transparent, fair and corruption-free Administration.

Deeply pained and concerned by the tragic tunnel collapse at the under-construction site of the NHPC Teesta Stage VI Hydroelectric Project at Samardung; Jholungey, in Namchi District of Sikkim.

I have spoken personally with the Hon’ble Chief Minister of Sikkim Shri Prem Singh Tamang Ji over the telephone to take stock of the situation. We are closely monitoring the developments, as there is a strong possibility that some of the affected workers belong to our Jalpaiguri district.
To ensure immediate assistance and on-ground coordination, Hon'ble Minister Shri Bishal Lama and the District Magistrate of Darjeeling are personally rushing to the site of the incident. Furthermore, our Home Secretary is in constant touch with the Sikkim Administration and is continuously getting updated regarding the rescue operations.

I have assured the Hon'ble Sikkim Chief Minister of all possible cooperation and support from the Government of West Bengal during this difficult hour.
My thoughts are with the families of the victims. I pray for the speedy recovery of those injured and the safe rescue of all those who are still trapped.
