1/2. This is one of the most challenging novelty eyes we’ve made:
1. paint everything black
2. grid the surface with pencil, 1mm apart
3. freehand the numbers with engraving tool and handpiece
4. touch up the numbers with paint
5. paint red over the entire surface
Metallic gold prosthesis with layers of gold leaf inside. This one was bit more challenging to make than it appears.
The shape has been modified drastically from the original impression to achieve lid symmetry. It provides support to the lids and socket tissue. #ocularistry
If the entire edge was trimmed this way then there may be issues during packing, so for the remaining edges the gold leaf was trimmed away from the edge using an engraving tool following application. Then just several coats of uncured PMMA syrup over everything before packing.
To make this prosthesis, the left ear was scanned, flipped, and printed at @UCD_TEAM (top left) then the mold was made with @SmoothOn Dragon Skin (bottom left). Right ear was cast with @MonsterClayUSA (not shown) then fitted over the cast of the right ear (bottom right) to sculpt
