The European Commission will announce plans to invest in EU regions bordering Russia, Belarus and Ukraine that are suffering economically because of the war, Politico reported.
The decline in investments, cargo traffic, and tourism has primarily affected the Baltic states, Finland, and Poland. Brussels is concerned that if these countries become depopulated, it will be more difficult for Europe to defend its borders, and the residents living in these regions will vote for fringe parties in elections due to economic problems and will be vulnerable to Russian propaganda.
"Europe's security begins at its Eastern frontier. A strong, prosperous, and resilient Eastern border is essential to safeguard the entire continent," the Commission wrote in a draft of the plan, officially called the Communication on Eastern Border Regions.

Also, Brussels will allow the aforementioned countries to use part of their EU regional development funds to offer guarantees to a number of banks to invest in their easternmost regions.

Today, Putin is the main source of these global problems. Therefore, only a Ukrainian victory can give us a chance that the future of the planet will become less vague," @Kasparov63 said.
