We don't love to say it, but many developmental norms and milestones for feeding aren't based on a lot of hard data.
This month we set out to answer your question, "Can you tell us what the science says about typical feeding development?"
We searched the research to find what is actually known (and not known) about the development of feeding skills, including tongue movement and lateralization, lip closure, biting/chewing, cup drinking, progressing through textures, and more. ⁠

Following the 1-hour/day recommendation was NOT a predictor of future expressive language skills in low-income homes. Instead of saying “no more than 1 hour/day” we can encourage reduced media exposure when possible & encourage coviewing & quality content.⁠
