Oil lobby is saying that during rains and washing, water can enter your fuel tank. Even a small amount can attract ethanol and separate it from petrol into a distinct layer, making cars/bikes difficult to start or causing jerks while driving.

Oil lobby further says that’s why you should periodically get your petrol tank cleaned, from your own money, of course.
