Even within their own countries, threats to presidents are more likely to come from political rivals than from ordinary citizens.

Stupid take. I’m simply stating the obvious. No one knows him outside his own country, so there’s no need for him to put on a spectacle. Only the Russian, Chinese and American presidents tend to move with that level of security and visibility when travelling abroad.

This isn’t even about him personally. Even Ramaphosa can move through New York, or virtually anywhere outside South Africa—without attracting that kind of spectacle or attention.
