Subtle, natural beauty. This particular piece of #remnantprairie is intact because its slope was too steep to cultivate. 💚🌱 With less than .1% of original #prairie remaining in #Iowa, we cherish this view and are delighted to be a part of its #restoration!

Ride along! We mowed this #field of weeds where #perennial wildflowers will eventually be established for #seedproduction. Successful prairie #reconstruction depends on timely #mowing!
We look forward to seeing greater diversity as native species are allowed to thrive!
Did you know @IowaStateU has a research & demonstration #forest? We do - 300 ac. in Delaware Co.! Worked last week on a variety of techniques to promote #oak regeneration on former #timber harvest and research sites. #trees#forest#forestry#silviculture
Sending reinforcements! We installed a cedar revetment along this unstable bank. Cedars were secured to each other and to the bank itself. This retaining wall will reduce erosion by absorbing sediment and some of the water’s energy!

This big ole Bur Oak was on top of the hill just screaming to get its picture taken. So I tried my best to make it look majestic and basically the coolest tree around! Belgum Grove preserve southwest of Iowa City. #NaturePhotography#ThisIsIowa

Healthy streams make good neighbors🌊We constructed a temporary bridge to continue work on the other bank for stream restoration. The bridge was built, utilized, then deconstructed - reinforcing the proverbial bridge between neighbors. The stream looks better than ever now!
“Acts of creation are ordinarily reserved for gods and poets, but humbler folk may circumvent this restriction if they know how. To plant a pine, for example, one need be neither god nor poet; one need only own a shovel.” - Aldo Leopold #MondayMotivation
