Col 1:24 “Now I rejoice in my sufferings” It is important that we have a sense of unworthiness for what God gives us, remembering our own sinfulness. We get tired of serving the Lord and lose our joy, when we think we deserve better than what God is giving us!
Titus 3:3 “hateful, hating one another” Hateful people despise anything or person that stands in the way of getting what they desire. They will push away their spouse, kids, and eventually their friends.
Titus 2:15 “speak and exhort and reprove with all authority” As long as the teacher is faithful to God’s word, teaching God’s word and not his own opinions, he has spiritual authority to the extent what he is saying aligns with scripture.
Titus 2:11-12 Grace teaches us to both renounce our old lives of worldly desires, and to positively live a new life of godliness, far from the world’s ways.
Titus 2:9-10 Though slavery and forced labor is dehumanizing, voluntary service is noble. The gospel is a jewel to be put in the setting of a consistent Christian life.
Titus 2:7-8 “in your teaching show integrity, dignity, and sound speech that cannot be condemned” Richard Baxter: “You cannot break men’s hearts by jesting with them”
Hebrews 2:10, 1:3 God is both “for whom and by whom all things exist”. It is He who “upholds the universe by the word of His power”. Our very existence is continually dependent on God’s upholding, sustaining, power, and mercy.
2 Timothy 3:13,12 “evil people and imposters will go on from bad to worse” “all who desire to live a Godly life in Christ Jesus will be persecuted” We can prepare for what is coming, while still having our full trust in the Lord!
2 Corinthians 10:5 “take every thought captive to obey Christ” How many of my thoughts are actively Godly thoughts? Or am I on autopilot most of the time in my thinking?
2 Corinthians 7:10 “worldly grief produces death” Unsanctified remorse happens when you get caught and your sinful lists go unfulfilled. The wounded pride leads to guilt, shame, and depression.
1 Corinthians 15:58 “be steadfast, immovable, always abounding in the work of the Lord, knowing that in the Lord your labor is not in vain.” If we are doing our work for the Lord, God is using it for his purposes.
Romans 8:38-39 “For I am convinced that neither death, nor life… nor any other created thing, will be able to separate us from the love of God” This is how we are we treat our wife in marriage, from Eph 5:25, such that divorce is never an option.
Acts 17:11 “they received the word with all eagerness, examining the scriptures daily to see if these things were so.” Believers must be critical thinkers. We must use discernment and wisdom in what we believe, and it must align with scripture.
Acts 2:39 “For the promise is for you and for your children and for all who are far off, everyone whom the Lord our God calls to himself.” We are those who are far off, even in these last days (v17).
John 17:5 “Father glorify me in your own presence with the glory that I had with you before the world existed” Jesus was with and one with the Father from all eternity past.
John 13:16 “ A servant is not greater than his master, nor is a messenger greater than the one who sent him.” If Christ forgave others, so also should we forgive all who sin against us.
