Cancer, aging, and degenerative diseases won't be easy to overcome.

But the scientific tools we're developing today will make it happen!

Scientists just discovered a way to create a never-ending supply of cancer-fighting immune cells.

They developed a method to extensively expand granulocyte-monocyte progenitors (GMPs), immature immune cells that can develop into macrophages and other immune cells.

They genetically engineered these cells with chimeric antigen receptors (CARs) to recognize specific targets on cancer cells.

In mouse experiments, the engineered cells established themselves in bone marrow, generated additional immune cells, and slowed the progression of both blood cancers and solid tumors.

Adding an immune-activating signal further strengthened the antitumor response.

Researchers also restored bacterial defense in a mouse model of chronic granulomatous disease. 👀

This approach could pave the way for more scalable cell therapies that continuously produce therapeutic immune cells inside the body.

These findings are preclinical. Further research and clinical trials will be amazing to see!

A radioactive drug can help doctors fight prostate cancer beyond the tumors they can see.

The new trial also found improved hormone-therapy-free survival.

Researchers reported promising results from a Phase 2 clinical trial testing a combination of targeted radioactive therapy and precision radiation in men with recurrent prostate cancer.

The results are worth paying attention to.

Here's what they found:

> Median progression-free survival increased from 7.4 months to 17.6 months.

> 33% of patients had no detectable disease at 24 months, compared with 12% receiving precision radiation alone.

> 3 patients developed more than 5 new cancer sites, compared with 9 in the control group.

New trial involved 92 men, with a median follow-up of 31.9 months.

The experimental treatment combines two approaches:

1. ¹⁷⁷Lu-PNT2002: An investigational radiopharmaceutical designed to target PSMA, a protein expressed at high levels on most prostate cancer cells. It delivers radiation to PSMA-expressing cancer cells throughout the body.

2. Stereotactic body radiation therapy (SBRT): Precision radiation that delivers concentrated doses to identifiable tumors while limiting exposure to surrounding healthy tissue.

The idea is to combine treatment of visible tumors with a radioactive drug that may also reach some cancer deposits too small to be detected on scans.👀
