I think I’m going to go straight for the liquid rocket. Because I want to, but also for other reasons.
It’s becoming very clear to me that a flying liquid is a much more valuable investment than another solid rocket, and the logical progression from the torch igniter.
Now out of propellants and with the summer at its end, time to head back to school and work on my academics, and of course, the next thing I have planned.
21 successful hot fires later, my torch igniter project is complete. See the compilation below. To say I learned a lot from this project would be an understatement.
For the later tests, I measured the chamber pressure, with a maximum measured value of 5.03 bar.
I have a plan. It may not be the best plan, but I have a plan.
Torch igniter, hot fire it before the summer ends.
Then launch a high-performance 2-stage rocket.
Then design a small-ish liquid rocket.
Then build, test, and launch said liquid rocket.
We are now one step closer reopening Michigan’s access to space.
This weekend I completed my first static fire on BlueCat, a nitrous/alcohol pressure fed liquid engine.
