The hysteria over FCRA tells you precisely why India needs FCRA.

Follow the argument and then follow the money.

India is saying something extraordinarily simple: if money enters this country from a foreign source, India has the sovereign right to know who sent it, who ultimately controls it, where it is being spent and for what purpose.

What exactly is objectionable about that?

Around 16,200 registered organisations received nearly ₹23,000 crore in foreign contributions in 2024–25 alone.

So please spare us the fiction that the FCRA Bill will “shut down civil society”.

What is being tightened is accountability.

And suddenly there is panic.

We are told regulating foreign-funded NGOs is an attack on democracy.

Since when did democracy mean that an unelected organisation financed from another country acquires a constitutional right to operate without rigorous scrutiny?

Because let me disappoint you, it is a massive minimum 5 & averages around 10.

Then say hello to V-Dem’s Academic Freedom Index, where the fate of a nation of 1.4 billion people is decided by a group chat of 5 people.

V-Dem’s actual methodology explicitly relies on a target of 5 anonymous country experts per indicator. If 3 of them are a frustoo, India’s national score drops lower than it was under British colonial rule in 1900.

In a country with 1100+ universities, 45K+ colleges & millions of academics, 5 people filling out an online form is a sampling rate of ~0.0.00029%. In any real data science class, a sample size like that would not even qualify as a pilot study.

So, yes, celebrate it..:))

You used to be the Vice President of the Podesta Group, and your client was the European Centre for a Modern Ukraine 🇺🇦 (ECFMU), remember?

Your firm took millions of dollars to advance Viktor Yanukovych’s political interests, yet it did not register under FARA.

The registration came only after the U.S. Department of Justice began probing the matter in 2017.

Why did you register after 2017 ? Because your govt forced you to do so.

So, you yourself are an example of why governments seek oversight of foreign-funded influence. As an American, you accepted FARA without protesting, but you have a problem when India brings a law with a similar stated objective through the FCRA?

You’re worried that lobbying firms and associated interests could lose their expected revenue if NGOs in India lose their registration or have their assets taken over under the law?

Because NGOs are the clients of your lobbying firms. 💀

I do not know how old are you son but I studied Marxism, Dialectics of Marxism, Marxism Leninism and Maoism that has now turned into a capitalistic authoritarian oligarchy very deeply in the mid 1980’s.

I also saw it in action in the erstwhile USSR and erstwhile Eastern Europe where the dictatorship of the proletariat became the tyrannical and repressive dictatorship over the proletariat.

As the first Asian to be elected President of the International Union of Students( IUS) in 1992 that was headquartered in Prague I was witness to the gale of change sweeping across Eastern Europe. Communism and Communists were the most reviled characters in the newly liberated nations of Eastern Europe who overthrew the yoke of oppressive Stalinism.

I have also closely analysed the excesses
Of Joseph Stalin and Lavrentiy Beria and the havoc wrought by the Great Leap Forward, cultural Revolution in China coupled with the egregious atrocities of the Gang of Four .

Marxism- Leninism was rejected by Leon Trotsky itself and Maoism by Mao Tse Tsung ‘s successor Deng Xiaoping who virtually denounced Mao .

I have also seen the tyrannical state of DPR Korea from within and the repression that is let loose on the hapless people by the despotic dynasty that controls that piece of geography.

Despotic dynasts are a problem that is not peculiar to the Communist paradigm but it is most so in DPR Korea and Cuba.

Marxism , Marxism - Leninism and Maoism are historically failed models. No point wasting time over them .

Religions are not similar nor equal in any meaningful manner. A religion whose central tenet is to forcibly convert the entire world is very different from one that forbids proselytizing. A fundamentalist Jain is one who is very committed to not harming an ant. More Jains literally implies more peace. This is not true of all faiths. Stop promulgating the idea that all religions are similar in their teachings. Nothing could be further from the truth. Freedom of religion IMPLIES freedom from any religion that seeks to remove all of your freedoms if and when in power. Wake up.

Glasgow 2026 just concluded yesterday.

A slew of medals & a fourth place overall finish for India.

But of everything from these games, two stories touched me deeply.

A judoka whose father fixed cycles for ₹300 a day, in a mud house, & didn’t live to see his daughter become the first Indian, man or woman, to win Commonwealth Games judo gold.

And a farmer’s son from an Aligarh village who ran on dirt trails just to pass the Army fitness test, & last week became the first Indian ever to win two track medals at a single Games.

Just hunger & the refusal to stay where they started.

This is what ‘Rise’ actually looks like.

The Commonwealth Games is becoming a daily roll-call of young Indians who have emerged from unimaginable hardship & horrors to win gold.

Look at 23-year-old judoka Asmita Dey, who is now the first Indian to win Commonwealth Games gold in the women’s 48kg category.

7 months ago, she lost her father to a brain stroke. A bicycle mechanic who earned barely ₹300 a day, he raised his family in a mud house in a small village in Tripura. When a knee injury threatened Asmita’s career, he found the money to take her to Delhi for treatment.

Even as the family mourned, Asmita’s mother urged her daughter to return to training, believing that abandoning the dream would betray everything her father had sacrificed for.

She now stands on top of the Commonwealth Games podium with a gold medal around her neck.
