Maybe they've simply had enough. For years mathematicians have been making topology pointless, analysis complex, and algebra abstract; they've foisted terrifying things like abstract nonsense, the monster, baby monster, and even monstrous moonshine on an unsuspecting public; all the while they've been committing horrors beyond comprehension against otherwise respectable mathematical objects: making homotopy unstable, sheaves perverse, and finally liquefying vector spaces!

@matthen2 So there are 64 pretty clear squares, most of which contain variations on the same colour, but there are a few which seem to vary pretty widely inside themselves. What's up with those? Is it an artefact of the mapping used, or more of an artefact of how we perceive colour? E.g.:

Arranged by threading a Hilbert curve through the 256³ colour cube and unrolling it along a Hilbert curve filling the square. so nearby colours stay close.
