@Jackbmeyer I don't know what's more dangerous: the satanic R code or that bench press. Upgrade to a rack and at least tidymodels or just use Python. Come on, it's 2026.
@JesusFerna7026@svincenzi@DavidDeutschOxf 2/ In these cases, I'd rather a physical book or a PDF on a large monitor. I wouldn’t say that retention is worse, but my interaction is different. So I think the welfare gain from moving from physical to digital books can vary depending on the type of book and the reader.
@JesusFerna7026@svincenzi@DavidDeutschOxf 1/ I totally agree with the broader point, and I envy you in this particular case. I have no problem reading novels on a Kindle, but for history books or technical manuals, especially when the subject is new to me, I find it much more painful.

@JesusFerna7026 Feature selection can reduce complexity (regularizing effect), but I don’t think that makes the two concepts equivalent. I agree on CV/held-out data for prediction, otherwise feature search can overfit, but good out-of-sample prediction doesn’t guarantee a correct causal effect.
@JesusFerna7026 I still find it useful to distinguish feature selection from regularization. The feature space determines what functions the model can represent.Regularization in the loss or in the model(early stopping, dropout, subsampling,..) biases or constrains the solution within that space
@JesusFerna7026 Even with regularization, you still have to specify which features are available to the model. Regularization constrains how strongly the model can rely on them; it doesn't replace model specification.
@JesusFerna7026@JesusFerna7026 I think I see the connection you're making: regularization can shrink or eliminate coefficients, with the value of the penalty chosen through hyperparameter tuning. But I'm not sure I'd call including control variables itself a form of regularization.
