Important conversation on AI with @BillGates and digital CEOs.
We have to strike the right balance.
Between the huge potential AI holds for our industry, healthcare, innovation and so much more.
And its regulation, ensuring trustworthiness and our cyber security.
This is why Europe has the AI Act - for innovation under human control.
And we will continue our global engagement on better coordination and common standards.
To manage the rapid development of AI in the interest of humanity.

This is Matmata, in Southern Tunisia. And it’s not just "houses in holes"—it’s an entire invisible city. Each hole serves as the courtyard of a home. The Berbers have been building this way for hundreds of years: 1. They dig a pit 7–10 meters deep. This becomes the courtyard. 2. From the walls of this pit, they dig horizontally to create rooms—bedrooms, a kitchen, and storage areas. These rooms are connected by tunnels. From above, nothing is visible except for a hole in the desert. Why do they do it? It’s not just to escape the heat—though it works perfectly for that. Inside, the temperature stays between 20–25°C, while outside it can reach over 50°C in the summer and drop near zero in the winter. There’s no need for air conditioning. The primary reason, however, was protection. In the desert, you’re an easy target. This design renders the entire village invisible to invaders; if you don’t know where to look, you could walk right past it without ever noticing. And perhaps most interestingly, this is the home of Luke Skywalker. In 1976, George Lucas filmed *Star Wars* in one of these very dwellings in Matmata. The Hotel Sidi Driss remains preserved to this day, just as it appeared on Tatooine—you can even sleep in Luke’s room. Today, fewer than 100 families still live there. Most of the younger generation has moved to the new town built above ground, but the older residents remain below. They say it’s the best place to sleep in the entire Sahara.

@amanpour My sincere thanks to #ChristianeAmanpour for her thoughtful #journalism. I admire her courage, professionalism, and commitment to asking questions that matter.
I support the principle that #Europe must protect its borders and stand united against the use of #migration as a tool of #political pressure. Protecting Europe’s security should go hand in hand with respecting #humanrights and the right to seek #asylum.
Ursula von der Leyen accused Russia and Belarus of weaponising migration to divide Europe, saying the EU will not be intimidated.
She announced plans for a new border emergency framework, insisting: “It is Europeans who decide who comes to the European Union.”
Rome’s first heated swimming pool was built more than 2,000 years ago by Maecenas, Emperor Augustus’s closest friend. What made it possible was a heating system hidden under the floor.
It was called a hypocaust. The Roman architect Vitruvius wrote down exactly how to build one.
First, the builders laid a base of tiles. It had to slope slightly toward the furnace, so that if you threw a ball onto it, the ball would roll back and not stay there.
On this base they built small pillars of brick, each about 60 centimeters tall. They set them in clay mixed with hair, so the heat wouldn’t crack them. Then they laid large flat tiles across the tops of the pillars, and the floor of the bath went on top of those tiles.
Next to the room was a furnace. Hot air and smoke from the fire flowed into the empty space between the pillars and heated the floor from below. Later, the Romans also built hollow clay pipes into the walls, so the hot air rose through them and warmed the whole room.
The water was heated over the same fire. Vitruvius describes three large tanks above the furnace: one for hot water, one for warm and one for cold. As hot water was used, warm water flowed in to replace it, and cold water refilled the warm tank. One fire heated all three.
HR/VP @kajakallas addressed the European Parliament plenary on the Trump administration’s decision to waive sanctions and tariffs on Russia required under the Graham Act.
She described the decision as regrettable, stressing that it weakens international pressure on Russia to end its war against Ukraine.
