@rahmstorf 's latest is "must-read" per "Welcome to Wally's World."
Arguably Slowdown(s) also matter a helluvalot, in the present, no matter the looming uncertainty as to when the AMOC Tipping Point may/will be triggered.

New UNEP emissions gap report highlights a "massive gap between rhetoric and reality" and calls for a "quantum leap" in ambition to deliver Paris goals, as the world is way off-track today.
I cover the details over at @CarbonBrief: https://t.co/PKae14c066
That's 9.3 standard deviations over the 1951-1980 base for the Atlantic Ocean between 50S-60N and 70W-10E.
Quite simply horrifying... with AMOC slowdown implications aplenty.
@rahmstorf
@EliotJacobson back from hiatus... part of my hedge is that it will pop back up into record territory again while transitioning into La Nina for weeks if not perhaps a month more.... if not just for Atlantic, or 60N to 60S region of SSTAs.
@rahmstorf May have to learn German .
If I had learned it while young could have qualified for Swiss citizenship after living there for 5 years. Another reason, perhaps. In addition, to reading your posts.
Danke.

Pretty much the only thing missing would be another BP Gulf oil spill... per how this summer's highlights may combine and inter-mingle.
Just... saying...

@hausfath So what began pre-El Nino remains, IE We are, in fact, in "Uncharted Territory."
Knowing that the exact hows & whys are yet undefined, can the framework/outline of Uncharted Territory's discussions pls be shared, knowing that an "all of the above" answer may be, or is, likely?
🤔
@danmiller999@CarbonBrief@hausfath OTOH tree rings don't lie.
OTO is the 0.24C difference representative of all the 1850-1900 N. Hemisphere measurements?
If so, that could explain being "ahead" of the GCM schedule of consequences, ditto for AMOC/SMOC slowdowns, if not shutdown schedule also.

@antonioguterres@UNEP It's too late for some things, but not for others.
To truly be honest about "Our Moment of Truth," in pragmatic & realistic terms, requires acknowledging that, since anything less is the newest form of denialism.

@antonioguterres Thank you for your "Our Moment of Truth" speech.
This Earth pic may look nice as your X cover.
