Brother Gbenga, it seems to me like I have not been able to get anything right in this my talking stage
I am totally not myself and this bothers me a little
Sir, I am naturally a very composed person and I make sure I engage my brain and mind when I meet someone that I see as a potential spouse
I am not one of those who love makes blind and would now not see any flaw in their potential spouse until they get married and things become too late
So I met this lady through a friend, she was actually having lunch with the friend when I walked into the same restaurant and chanced upon the two of them
My friend signaled me over and introduced the two of us immediately
He asked me to join their table
They are into investment banking and they work together
She was a new member of his team, just joined the company in January and he has a style of having lunch with the newbie and explaining things about his strategy and mode of operation to such informally
This was what he was doing with her when I met them
He told her who I was and what I do and said I could also give her a tip or two that would help her settle into her role
I did so
We had lunch and I took her number out of politeness
I had no intention of reaching out to her for any reason
When I got home in the evening, she sent me a message thanking me for my counsel earlier in the day
I replied the message
She replied immediately
I saw that she was witty and friendly
I ended up chatting with her for hours until we had talked about her exes and why she is single and about my own journey and all.
Next thing I know I have asked her out on a date and she accepted
Cool!
We had our date the next day, I couldn’t wait till the weekend
She explained that she closes late and all but I insisted
She showed up and we had a wonderful time
I got her back to her house at almost 11pm and I got home at past midnight
I usually don’t stay out of my house or any house I find myself by 10pm
I got home berating myself for not letting her take Uber while I drove myself home, that way we both save time, energy and get to rest more
She had sent a thank you message
I replied and she replied again
We chatted all night until 7am when we both agreed to meet at the beach for 4pm
Thankfully this was a public holiday
We met at the beach and I decided to test her compliance to my demands as a man.
So I said I am going to my house and I will like her to come with pounded yam and Okra soup that same night to make up for the drive I did the previous night
She said “challenge accepted”
I went home and she got to my house at 9:40pm with the food
I had PSSBC class for 10pm and I wanted to drive her back home
Anyway, I foolishly ate the meal by 11pm
She didn’t go home that night
If she did I would have vomited the food when I started noticing it was hurting my tummy but because she was around I kept the food in (I didn’t want her to see me vomiting and thinking I have a weak constitution or maybe the food was not good) and fell seriously ill
I was angry with myself the next morning, how was it that I kept fumbling the ball around the lady? I had broken all my own rules and it was as if I was just making things up as I went
She couldn’t go home that day, she had to take me to the hospital when the pain from the food I shouldn’t have eaten or should have willingly vomited after eating but didn’t got too bad
She stayed with me at the hospital until I got better
I told her I want to break up with her because she has this effect of me that I don’t understand
I am a smart, God made successful young man who knows he is intelligent, but she keeps making me do silly things just to please or impress her
She listened when I explained all this and said It is okay
Then she asked me if she should wait until I have fully recovered before moving on or if I wanted her to move on immediately
I could see she was hiding some pain, but she masked it well
My heart started beating somehow….
