“Recording Personal Histories: When History Becomes Personal” focuses on how we have recorded our lives over history. Come visit the Madlyn L. Hanes Library to view and explore the exhibit!
Continuing with our theme of marriage, take a look at this hand drawn "Map of Marriage" ca. 1900 from our Alice Marshall Collection! Can you spot the "Gulf of Matrimony" and "Cape Courtship"?
Summer is commonly known as wedding season! Our Alice Marshall collection has many materials relating to weddings, marriage, and women's experiences in both. We'll be featuring some of these this month, beginning with this beautifully illustrated marriage certificate from 1867!
To wrap up our Summer "Fun and Games" mini-series, here is an Elizabeth Taylor Coloring book ca. 1950. The starlet, known for roles in Little Women, Cleopatra, and much more, appears in this coloring book in scenes from her life.
Many children throughout generations can recall playing with paper dolls. A child growing up in the 1940s might remember playing with a set like these! From our Alice Marshall Collection, this book of paper dolls features Gloria Jean, a popular actress from the time.
This summer, we will highlight materials that are all Fun & Games, literally. This is the Annie Oakley Game from our Alice Marshall Collection, ca. 1955. This is "a game of the real wild west" with a board, spinner, play money, metal pieces which are Annie Oakley on a horse.
Pictured here is a fatigue blouse from the United States Army Volunteers, and a Model 1895 forage cap worn by officers.
