@troyheff Yeah, once I got told this during my Ph.D., I just quit. I was/am working a full-time demanding job on top of it. There was no way I was going to be able to manage it while working and going without a salary wasn't an option.
@ac_robers Now that I've quit my Ph.D., I'm actually looking into a BCBA program as well as working towards being a license eligible school psych. Honestly, I just want an option that will allow me to help kids without being stuck in K12 or academia.
I've been on leave of absence from my Ph.D. for a semester as of today. Tbh, I don't think I'll go back. Or at least not to that program and not soon. It just wasn't worth the strain on my mental health. I still haven't recovered from the burnout. #phdvoice#AcademicChatter
I get the same question often regarding WV. It was one of the most annoying aspects about living outside D.C. during internship. It was wild because D.C. is only 1 hour from WV, yet they are so far removed from what's going on.

I'm a month into my leave of absence from my Ph.D. I now realize how burnt out I am/was. I will eventually get my doctorate, but I have to remember that my mental health comes first. Screw those few who told me that I just wasn't committed enough. #AcademicTwitter#phdvoice
For those from Appalachia who've moved away, what was your breaking point? I think my husband and I are there, but I have this guilt of leaving my family and not staying to "fight the good fight". #Appalachia#appodlachia#thestruggletostay
I know it's wild considering education right now, but I miss being an actual school psych working with kids. Spouse and I are discussing an out-of-state move and I think I'll look into schools instead of tech assistance and grant management. #schoolpsych#SchoolPsychology
@NicketaNicola I cant do antidepressants. Two years on them with blunted emotions (which I guess did help? But not the way I wanted) and now suffering from post-SSRI sex dysfunction. They just weren't my friend. Concerta has been a good friend for my recent ADHD dx though lol
It's wild that in order to submit for a leave of absence from my Ph.D. for a mental health issue, I have to provide medical doc of a treatment plan AND write a personal statement. Because telling a bunch of strangers about my issue is helpful and needed. #phdvoice#phstudent
