AP Psychology teacher. Page for all things psych, education, books, kindness, and being a good human. “I never lose. I either win or learn” -N. Mandela
I have a student who loves to review #psych by drawing dinos conducting major studies on my board. It’s my new favorite thing…@PhilZimbardo @StanfordPsych do you agree that this is amazing?! 💜💛
Cultures of toxic positivity are full of pressure to show constant enthusiasm.
Healthy cultures offer freedom to express unpleasant emotions.
You can say you're languishing, depressed, anxious, or burned out—and you feel supported rather than judged.

THIS 🧵! I have been trying to find the right words for my thoughts- here they are. She has done more for @TeamUSA Gymnastics and our culture as a whole by using her VOICE, rather than her body. Her impact and influence is much bigger than a medal.
Good for Simone Biles for advocating for her own mental health. She tried to push on, but it became blindingly clear to her that she could cause great harm to herself by doing so. At the end of the day, a sport is just a sport. A human is so much more. #SimoneBiles

Closing the door on year 16!!! It has been a year unlike ANY other, but I can saw that I grew as an educator and as a person from all the amazing humans I got to meet (some never in person) and work with.
The mountains of Western Washington are calling me!! ❤️☀️🏔
Calls for teachers to exercise “self care" are often superficial and do not acknowledge the required healing process. Compassion fatigue cannot be cured by shortened meetings, notes of encouragement, or working fewer hours. https://t.co/8Lgg3Edvca
Burnout expert here - we need to talk about summer (a thread).
I get criticized anytime I suggest teachers do anything positive for themselves over the summer. Why? Because teachers are exhausted and need to rest!
Totally understood, but let’s chat about this...
The message of unconditional positive regard is, “I care about you. You have value. You don’t have to do anything to prove it to me, and nothing’s going to change my mind.” @AlexSVenet https://t.co/UM25PNZpCN
