@duckinwales@ucmpberkeley Coal balls are plant-rich calcium carbonate nodules that formed in coal swamps. Etching them in weak HCl acid solution leaves the plant walls standing in relief. We flood surface with acetone lay sheet of acetate over it, acetone melts the acetate, let it dry, then pull it off.
