@scurvypiratehog Basically, if your theory requires Shadow to actually be dead and then uses Sonic CD's events to explain his return, that's where the chronology falls apart. Shadow's return belongs to the SA2 → Heroes part of the timeline, not Sonic CD.
@scurvypiratehog I don't think this theory works chronologically.
The problem is that you're treating Amy and Metal Sonic appearing in Sonic 4 as proof that the movie is going to adapt Sonic CD, but that doesn't really fit with what Sonic 3 already established.
@scurvypiratehog So Amy + Metal Sonic doesn't automatically mean Sonic CD. Those characters can simply be taken from CD and incorporated into a story inspired by Heroes. The movies have already been rearranging the games' chronology anyway.
@scurvypiratehog Sonic 3 already gave us Shadow's apparent sacrifice, then revealed in the post-credits scene that he survived. It also introduced Metal Sonic and Amy.
@scurvypiratehog most of his memories and is trying to figure out his identity. Metal Sonic is also the main antagonist of that game.
And that's exactly why Sonic 4 seems much more naturally positioned to take inspiration from Sonic Heroes.
@scurvypiratehog In the games, Sonic CD introduces Amy and Metal Sonic, but Shadow has nothing to do with that story. Shadow's apparent death and subsequent return are part of the Sonic Adventure 2 → Sonic Heroes storyline. In Sonic Heroes, Shadow is revealed to have survived, but he has lost
