Tragically, more than 66,000 of our service members made the ultimate sacrifice, while over 172,000 were wounded.

Parks Canada fire crews are currently responding to an out-of-control wildfire @JasperNP, 6 km north of Highway 16 and 22 km west of the Jasper townsite. The fire is approximately 2 - 3 ha. Parks Canada Initial Attack crew + helicopter conducting direct suppression activities.

As Canada celebrates Canada Day, let us also remember the huge sacrifice of the Newfoundland Regiment on this day in 1916.
Of the some 800 Newfoundlanders who went into battle that morning, only 68 were able to answer the roll call the next day, with more than 700 killed, /1
